The Assassin's Blade - Sarah J Mass Review

Hello all,

So I've got the Christmas holidays coming up fast and I find myself getting sucked into the books that I tend to like at the end of the year. I have to say I was surprised I wanted to read this one as quickly as I did after struggling with the last one. Anyway let me get into the book review.

The Assassin's Blade Novelas - Sarah J Mass

Find out where the Throne of Glass journey began in this irresistible bind-up of all five of #1 New York Times bestselling author Sarah J. Maas's Assassin novellas
Celaena Sardothien is Adarlan's most feared assassin. As part of the Assassins' Guild, her allegiance is to her master, Arobynn Hamel, yet Celaena listens to no one and trusts only her fellow killer-for-hire, Sam.
In these action-packed prequel novellas - together in one edition for the first time - Celaena embarks on five daring missions. They take her from remote islands to hostile deserts, where she fights to liberate slaves and seeks to avenge the tyrannous. But she is acting against Arobynn's orders and could suffer an unimaginable punishment for such treachery . . .
Explore the dark underworld of this kick-ass heroine and find out how the legend begins in the five page-turning prequel novellas to the New York Times bestselling Throne of Glass series.

5 Star Review

Not every short story in this collection of Novela's was worth the 5 stars so what I did was rate each one separately on my Goodreads page. The desert novels dragged in some spots and made it slightly uncomfortable to read. I di, however, dive into it and got really interested in some of the Sam Cortland's history with Celaena and these stories tie well into the series and will make the first book that bit better, sweeter. I have to say I'm in love with how she made all these stories fit and come together well. I can't wait to see how she will end the series. I say she earned the five stars with how she managed to pull it all together.

5 Star Review

This might be the hardest book for Sara to write in her series so far but it was by far her best. I love how well the pieces of her mystery fitted together. I couldn't put it down when I started it and I fell in love with all the pieces. I couldn't think of better twists and

turns to have in this book. I can't wait to read book 4 and will be making Sara Shepard a must buy author of mine moving forward.

Empire of Storms By Sarah J Mass - Review

Hello all,

So I'm here with the final throne of glass book. I've got the short stories one on my current reading list and look forward to sharing my thoughts on that one soon enough. Its been a good series to read this year.

Empire of Storms - Sarah J Maas

Kingdoms collide in Sarah J. Maas's epic fifth installment in the New York Times bestselling Throne of Glass series.
The long path to the throne has only just begun for Aelin Galathynius. Loyalties have been broken and bought, friends have been lost and gained, and those who possess magic find themselves at odds with those who don't.
With her heart sworn to the warrior-prince by her side, and her fealty pledged to the people she is determined to save, Aelin will delve into the depths of her power to protect those she loves. But as monsters emerge from the horrors of the past, and dark forces become poised to claim her world, the only chance for salvation will lie in a desperate quest that may mark the end of everything Aelin holds dear.
In this breathtaking fifth installment of the New York Times bestselling Throne of Glass series, Aelin will have to choose what--and who--to sacrifice if she's to keep the world of Erilea from breaking apart.

3/5

I had loved the series up to this book. This one seemed to drag on in places and sometimes I was getting confused by the jumps that were thrown around and sometimes felt it took away from the flow of the story. I had to stop at certain points to refocus my mind on the new character being introduced. I did like the short sentences that at times would make the pace of the book so much easier to read.  The story was great however it was just how they executed it that I didn't like. I know that there is a lot of people who don't agree with me but this is just how I felt as I got further and further into it.

I also wanted a closure for the end of the story that I didn't feel we got. I know there is a spin-off series I just found myself wishing that she had cut this into another three books. Maybe she might have been able to give a great ending to a story that offered the reader so much.

City of Ashes (Mortal Instruments) by Cassandra Clare Book Review

Hello All,

So I'm digging into the books I started in August that I haven't had a chance to finish. I'm falling in love with some of them and some of them am struggling with.

Here is what I thought of "City of Ashes" (Book 2 of Mortal Instruments) by Cassandra Clare.

Is love worth betraying everything? Plunge into the second adventure in the internationally bestselling Mortal Instruments series and “prepare to be hooked” (Entertainment Weekly)—now with a gorgeous new cover, a map, a new foreword, and exclusive bonus content! City of Ashes is a Shadowhunters novel.

Clary Fray just wishes that her life would go back to normal. But what’s normal when you’re a demon-slaying Shadowhunter, your mother is in a magically induced coma, and you can suddenly see Downworlders like werewolves, vampires, and faeries? If Clary left the world of the Shadowhunters behind, it would mean more time with her best friend, Simon, who’s becoming more than a friend. But the Shadowhunting world isn’t ready to let her go—especially her handsome, infuriating, newfound brother, Jace. And Clary’s only chance to help her mother is to track down rogue Shadowhunter Valentine, who is probably insane, certainly evil—and also her father.

To complicate matters, someone in New York City is murdering Downworlder children. Is Valentine behind the killings—and if he is, what is he trying to do? When the second of the Mortal Instruments, the Soul-Sword, is stolen, the terrifying Inquisitor arrives to investigate and zooms right in on Jace. How can Clary stop Valentine if Jace is willing to betray everything he believes in to help their father?

In this breathtaking sequel to City of Bones, Cassandra Clare lures readers back into the dark grip of New York City’s Downworld, where love is never safe and power becomes the deadliest temptation.

5/5 Star Review

I'm diving in here to say that in the beginning I fell in love with the novel and enjoyed the fast pace. Coming to the end I struggled as I found it slow down and I really struggled with it. I loved the first one and flew that one. I don't know if I hit a reading slump or if it was the speed of the twisting novel. I have found myself questioning the book and maybe trying it later on. I will though be continuing on the series to see if I have fallen out of love with how the story is playing out or if its me.

Pretty Little Liars #2 - Flawless - Sara Shepard Review

Hello all,

I'm getting into "Flawless" which is the second Pretty Little Liars book in the series. I can't wait to reveal my thoughts about this piece of work.

Pretty Little Liars : Flawless

#1 New York Times bestselling series
This special paperback TV tie-in edition of Flawless, the second book in Sara Shepard's #1 New York Times bestselling series, features cover artwork from the hit ABC Family TV show Pretty Little Liars, starring Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson, Lucy Hale, and Shay Mitchell.
Set in ultra-trendy Rosewood, Pennsylvania, Pretty Little Liars centers around four beautiful girls who are hiding some very ugly secrets, and the one person who knows them all...and is not afraid to spill.
Fans of the Pretty Little Liars TV show will find Flawless packed with the same kind of juicy secrets, taut suspense, and jaw-dropping surprises that they know and love, all brought to life in New York Times bestselling author Sara Shepard's compellingly gripping writing.

5/5 Stars
Review:

This is a great next part of the story and it moves the characters into deeper danger. I have to say I love the way that the characters get into the depths of the suspense, thriller storyline. The twists completely catch you off guard and it doesn't follow the same pathway as the TV series. I have to say that I enjoyed the new chapter in what could be an amazing book series that are played by really well. Nothing was forgotten and every detail was done just right. I can't recommend this enough for teenagers that are looking for a gateway into the thriller suspense genre.

The Truth About Alice- Jennifer Mathieu Review

Hello all,

Today I'm reviewing a book that I went in with high expectations and soon found myself doubting the YouTubers who recommended it. More to follow:

The Truth About Alice by Jennifer Mathieu

Winner of the Children's Choice Book Awards' Teen Choice Debut Author Award
Everyone knows Alice slept with two guys at one party. When Healy High star quarterback Brandon Fitzsimmons dies in a car crash, it was because he was sexting with Alice. Ask anybody.
Rumor has it Alice Franklin is a slut. It's written all over the "slut stall" in the girls' bathroom: "Alice had sex in exchange for math test answers" and "Alice got an abortion last semester." After Brandon dies, the rumors start to spiral out of control. In this remarkable debut novel, four Healy High students tell all they "know" about Alice-and in doing so reveal their own secrets and motivations, painting a raw look at the realities of teen life. But in this novel from Jennifer Mathieu, exactly what is the truth about Alice? In the end there's only one person to ask: Alice herself.
This title has Common Core connections.

4/5 Stars

I'm not sure if I went into this book thinking it would be more than what it was. It was artistic and it felt like it could have been taken out of the minds of a group of American teenagers. Only I didn't find myself understanding where the story arc was or how this would proceed. I kept waiting for the moment to hit me. I felt like we were climbing the hill and then got that 'ah' moment. I was left feeling disappointed however the book kept the four stars due to its easy read and relatable characters. I would have loved to see this book do more. I would love to know your thoughts.

Fatal Identity (Book 10 Fatal Series) By Marie Force Review

Hello all,

Another suspense-filled novel that will have us in the Halloween mood. I hope that this will be on your reading list this holiday season.

Fatal Identity By Marie's Force

Every family has its secrets...
As the first anniversary of her marriage to Vice President Nick Cappuano approaches, Lieutenant Sam Holland is dreaming of Bora Bora--sun, sand and a desperately needed break from the DC grind. But real life has a way of intervening, and Sam soon finds herself taking on one of the most perplexing cases of her career.
Government worker Josh Hamilton begs Sam to investigate his shocking claim that his parents stole him from another family thirty years ago. More complicated still, his "father" is none other than the FBI director. When a member of Josh's family is brutally murdered, Sam begins to question how deep this cover-up goes. Is it possible the revered director was part of a baby-napping ring and that others involved are also targets?
With a killer intent on deadly revenge and her team still reeling from a devastating loss, Sam's plate is full--and when Nick and their son, Scotty, take ill, is her dream of a tropical anniversary celebration in peril too?

5/5 Star Review

So this wasn't quite I was expecting considering that I'm used to having Sam and Nick dominate the books that have filled these series with some of them being able to show off the other characters stories. This book caught me off guard with how much of the supporting characters of this book were able to take the spotlight. There was a smaller level of danger to Nick and Sam, however, it was the other characters that kept this book moving. That made this book emotional for those reading it and got me invested in what was going to happen.

I can't say too much or I'll spoil this book and that is something that I just can't do. It's a book that has so much to offer the series, but be prepared for Nick and Sam to take a backseat. The five stars came from the level of angst from the other characters, the boiling 'oh no' elements that made the suspense fulfilling.

Its another great book from Marie Force.

Christmas At Cade Ranch - Karen Rock Review

Hello all,

Some early Christmas cheer for you. I recommend this before the holidays roll around. Its a must have! I want to thank Karen Rock for giving me the honour of letting me review this great book for her. I can't shout enough from the rooftops about how great she is. So check out her review and tell me what you think!

Christmas At Cade Ranch- Karen Rock

James Cade has one priority: keep the family ranch running smoothly in the wake of his younger brother's death. With Jesse's ex, Sofia Gallardo, and her young son, Javi, stranded at Cade Ranch over Christmas, this task just got a lot harder. The longer Sofia and Javi stay, the harder it is to imagine the ranch without them. James couldn't save his brother from his inner demons, but he can give his nephew a secure future. Maybe more—if he can figure out how to trust Sofia, and stop feeling like he's betraying Jesse. Because trying to stop thinking about beautiful, determined Sofia is impossible.

5/5  Stars
Review

From the outset this book gripped me and held me from start to finish. The emotional story of Sofia was one that wasn't easy to forget and the desire to see Javi happy pulled at my heartstrings. I was dying to see how this played out and couldn't wait until the end. I was totally blown away by what came at the end and the hurdles that James has to overcome with the help of Sofia is enough to make anyone fall for cowboys. I have to say I found myself wondering about these great characters.

There is nothing not to love in this book and there are so many people that will be touched by this story. It's not just a great romance, grief, tear jerker but a super warm and desirable one. Please find the buy links below and know that you will be filled with more of the Christmas spirit than before.

Rattle (DS Fitzroy 1) By Fiona Cummins Review

Hello All,

I'm getting to the last of the books I completed in hospital. I have to say this one was one that I couldn't put down. This isn't my genre but stumbling on it I decided to give it a shot and I fell in love with Fiona Cummins. Anyway wait till you see what I think and maybe it might get you to give this author a chance.

Rattle
By
Fiona Cummins

'It's a rare debut that has this much polish. Harrowing and horrifying, head and shoulders above most of the competition' - Val McDermid
A serial killer to chill your bones
A psychopath more frightening than Hannibal Lecter.
He has planned well. He leads two lives. In one he's just like anyone else. But in the other he is the caretaker of his family's macabre museum.
Now the time has come to add to his collection. He is ready to feed his obsession, and he is on the hunt.
Jakey Frith and Clara Foyle have something in common. They have what he needs.
What begins is a terrifying cat-and-mouse game between the sinister collector, Jakey's father and Etta Fitzroy, a troubled detective investigating a spate of abductions.
Set in London's Blackheath, Rattle by Fiona Cummins explores the seam of darkness that runs through us all; the struggle between light and shadow, redemption and revenge.
It is a glimpse into the mind of a sinister psychopath. And it's also a story about not giving up hope when it seems that all hope is already lost.

Review - 5/5

I have to say that first off the title says it all!

"Rattle" my bones it did and it was so well put together that I was surprised to find myself falling in love with something I usually don't read. This gave me a moment to pause as I found myself unable to put it down and how I found myself pulling for the little children in this book. The setting of a hospital was also something that made me bite my lip a lot. Might want to read this on Halloween as its a great one to get you nervous and your stomach doing all sort of things.

I have to say that the set up for the second novel was perfectly done and this book will rival the works of Rachel Caine who released "Stillhouse Lake". I look forward to seeing how she develops this going forward.

Stillhouse Lake By Rachel Caine Review

Hello all,

So I have to say that I enjoyed this book greatly and the fact I have been a supporter of Rachel Caine has nothing to do with it. She is a wonderful author and her work has stood out strong against the great material that is coming out in this genre. I think this could be bigger than people give it credit for.

Stillhouse Lake
By
Rachel Caine

Gina Royal is the definition of average—a shy Midwestern housewife with a happy marriage and two adorable children. But when a car accident reveals her husband’s secret life as a serial killer, she must remake herself as Gwen Proctor—the ultimate warrior mom.

With her ex now in prison, Gwen has finally found refuge in a new home on remote Stillhouse Lake. Though still the target of stalkers and Internet trolls who think she had something to do with her husband’s crimes, Gwen dares to think her kids can finally grow up in peace.

But just when she’s starting to feel at ease in her new identity, a body turns up in the lake—and threatening letters start arriving from an all-too-familiar address. Gwen Proctor must keep friends close and enemies at bay to avoid being exposed—or watch her kids fall victim to a killer who takes pleasure in tormenting her. One thing is certain: she’s learned how to fight evil. And she’ll never stop.

Review
5/5

Chilling and well worth reading as I held my breath at several points. I have to say I fell in love with the characters in this book and wanted nothing more than to root for them. Rachel Caine hid the murder well right up to the last second. I have to say I fell in love with how she made the puzzle pieces to slip together. I have to say that I'm honoured to have read this book and seen how her writing has gone so well, easily from Young Adult Fantasy to this genre.

There is nothing I found wrong with this book at all and that is rare for me. It was what I needed when sitting in the hospital and it got me out of my reading slump. I have to say that I can't wait to see what else these series have to offer. I pre-ordered this one as I can't wait to see the next piece of the journey.

Queen of Shadows By Sarah J Maas Review

Hello,

It's taken me a lot longer to finish this book but I wouldn't have wanted to read anything else while I went through my double joint replacement surgery. Keep reading for the rest of my thoughts.

Queen of Shadows
By
Sarah J Maas

Sarah J. Maas's New York Times bestselling Throne of Glass series reaches new heights in this sweeping fourth instalment.
Everyone Celaena Sardothien loves has been taken from her. Now she returns to the empire - to confront the shadows of her past ...
Bloodthirsty for revenge on the two men responsible for destroying her life, and desperate to find out if the prince and his captain are safe, Celaena returns to Rifthold, the seat of so much evil. She has accepted her identity as Aelin Galathynius, Queen of Terrasen. But before she can reclaim her throne, there are dark truths to learn and debts to be paid. Aelin must stay hidden beneath her assassin's hood and draw on her mortal strength as Celaena to prevent the King of Adarlan from tearing her world apart. Only then can she fight for her people.
Readers will be held rapt as Celaena's story builds to an agonising crescendo, packed with heart-pounding action and swoon-worthy romance.

5/5 stars

This is just as the blurb makes you shiver. It's exciting, enthralling and great if you want to get lost in another world. She was able to make a great ending for this book when things look so direr for all the characters in it. I like how she introduced a new character that connects Manor and Aelin more to each other than before. A lot of the fears in this book about how she was going to come to a well rounded ending for the series are shaken off and Sarah makes this look easy. There is very few people that can do that and this is the reason why Sarah  J Maas should be put down as a great author for the YA genre.

The Knight's Broken Promise By Nicole Locke

Hello All,

Here is a quick look into the latest historical romance I have been reading. This time we are in Scotland and we are about to see something that was rare in its time.

The Knight's Broken Promise
By
Nicole Locke

BLACK ROBERT. THE MOST FEARED OF ALL KING EDWARD’S MEN…
When an English knight approaches the charred ruins of her sister’s Scottish village, Gaira of Clan Colquhoun knows better than to trust this fierce-looking man.
Yet, struggling to set her war-shaken world to rights, she has little choice.

But what will happen when Gaira discovers exactly who Robert is… ?

5/5 Stars
Review

I was super nervous when I got this book out as it's based in Scotland like I am. Sometimes when it's not Scottish authors writing about a historical romance it doesn't always work. Nicole Locke surprised me. She understood the honour that we have, the need to protect children from anything that might cause them harm and the meaning of family. Especially in a time when brother fought brother. It is nice to see that she was able to capture that and the passion of a Scottish woman in the form of her heroine. There is so much to this book that its not like a normal historical romance.

There is a passion within the Englishmen that doesn't over power the story. There is a sense of duty that the English use to have that comes through very well in this. I think she managed to balance the two characters really well and was delighted to see how it turned out.

I do recommend it to those who want a funny, passionate and realistic Scottish historical romance.

Taming His Viking Wife By Michelle Styles - Review

Hello Readers,

Today I'm diving back into the Mills and Boon delights with "Taming His Viking Wife" by Michelle Styles. Its an older book, but I'm not really bothered whether its the latest one out or has been around for years.

Here are my thoughts....

Taming His Viking Wife By Michelle Styles

Legendary shield maiden Sayrid Avildottar will marry no man unless he first defeats her in combat. And in powerful sea king Hrolf Eymundsson she has finally met her match.

Hrolf might have won her lands - and her body - but can Sayrid welcome a stranger to her bed? The world of fighting is all she knows! But with a husband intent on seducing his new bride perhaps, just this once, Sayrid will discover that surrender can bring the greatest pleasure of all...

4/5 Stars
Review

I enjoyed the idea of this book a lot as I grew up with the Viking history all around me. There was something about the idea of seeing one of their stories come to life that drew me to this book. There was a lot of times that I was thrown out of the book's deep grasp, however it wasn't hard to pick back up again. I think there is a few areas that she could maybe work on and that would have made this book better. I have to give it four stars as I can see the love she poured into. I do recommend it however I do state that its not as close to what the history of the people is. If that doesn't bother you then its one you will most certainly enjoy.

Heir of Fire By Sarah J Maas Review

Hello All,

I'm back reading the Throne of Glass series and it was certainly interesting to read this one.

Heir of Fire
By
Sarah J Maas

Celaena Sardothien, heroine of the New York Times bestselling series, rises from the ashes to burn even brighter than before.
Celaena has survived deadly contests and shattering heartbreak-but at an unspeakable cost. Now, she must travel to a new land to confront her darkest truth…a truth about her heritage that could change her life-and her future-forever. Meanwhile, brutal and monstrous forces are gathering on the horizon, intent on enslaving her world. Will Celaena find the strength to not only fight her inner demons, but to take on the evil that is about to be unleashed?
In this USA Today bestselling third book in the New York Times bestselling series, Sarah J. Maas again delivers the epic fantasy, heart-stopping pace, and heady romance that have won her readers the world over. Look for a teaser for the fourth book in the series, Queen of Shadows, out in this same season!

5/5 Stars
Review:

This was certainly more gory and violent than her other books. We see the characters move onto the next chapters of their lives even though there is a sadness that surrounds them at not having Celaena in their lives. We are introduced to the witches in this book that prove to be almost heartless, ruthless creatures. If you wanted more action, gore and less romance then I recommend reading this book

Sarah J Mass certainly takes this book to a whole other level and makes each page harder to not read. I was finding it very hard to put down. I enjoyed this book a lot and I hope that many of you will too.
